The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, CP Danlandi Isa, has ordered police officers in the command to impound vehicles without number plates as well as those with covered or concealed plates.
CP Danlandi also directed that such vehicles should be properly investigated and any offenders prosecuted in court.
The directive was given on Thursday in Umuahia during a briefing with senior officers on the outcome of a recent conference between senior police officers and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) at Force Headquarters, Abuja.
CP Danlandi Isa informed Area Commanders, DPOs, VCRU Commanders, and Heads of Departments that the order to impound such vehicles originated from the IGP, Kayode Egbetokun.
He charged officers to remain proactive in ensuring security across Abia State and to intensify efforts against criminal elements, warning against complacency, especially during the rainy season when criminals often exploit environmental conditions to carry out crimes.
While commending officers for their dedication to maintaining law and order, the Commissioner urged them to remain professional, civil, and respectful in the discharge of their duties.
He also emphasised strict respect for human rights, including the protection of suspects under investigation, and encouraged intelligence-led policing in all operations.
CP Isa further cautioned officers to maintain discipline and consistently remind personnel about the lawful use of firearms in line with Force Order 237.
