“AAlex Ekubo wasn’t going to glory” — Daddy Freeze defends wearing black at actor’s service of songs

Media personality Daddy Freeze has said that the late actor Alex Ekubo was “not going to glory,” describing his death as a tragic loss.

Daddy Freeze made the comment during an Instagram Live session while responding to backlash over his outfit choice at Alex’s service of songs on Wednesday.

The service of songs, held in Lagos on June 10, 2026, had a specified dress code on the invitation card.

Daddy Freeze and his wife have faced criticism online after they appeared in black outfits instead of the white dress code indicated for the event.

Addressing the controversy, he said it was wrong for him to go against the dress code, but explained that it was unintentional.

He maintained that Alex’s death was painful and unexpected.

According to him, “he was not going to glory, he was a tragic loss until we were able to wrap our head around that.”

He added that although he understands that the late actor has “gone to a better place,” he personally felt Alex died too young and had more to achieve in life.

Daddy Freeze also dismissed comparisons being made online, insisting that Christ’s sacrifice should not be used in such discussions, while stressing that he believes Alex still had much ahead of him before his death.

He apologised for the outfit mix-up, explaining that he did not notice the dress code on the invitation.

He also noted that in some parts of Nigeria, black is traditionally worn to funerals, saying he assumed the event was strictly a mourning gathering.

“I just thought we were mourning. I’m very sorry if anyone felt offended,” he said.
