The Gombe State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has maintained that former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Ali Pantami, is still a member of the party.
Speaking at a press briefing in Gombe on Tuesday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Moses Kyari, said the proper procedures were not followed regarding Pantami’s alleged resignation.
This follows Pantami’s reported emergence as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State, after the APC primary which produced Jamilu Gwamna.
Kyari noted that the APC leadership in Pantami’s ward had earlier stated that it did not receive or deliberate on any resignation letter said to have been submitted by the former minister.
He explained that under the APC Constitution, INEC guidelines, and the Electoral Act, Pantami remains a member of the party until the required processes are properly completed and confirmed.
According to him, “As you may recall, twenty-five out of the twenty-seven members of the Ward Executive Committee publicly stated that they neither saw nor discussed any resignation letter purportedly submitted by Professor Ali Isa Pantami.
“They maintained that the claim was fabricated without the knowledge or approval of the Ward Executive Committee. Despite repeated requests, members of the committee have not been provided with a copy of the said letter.
“It is therefore our position that Professor Ali Isa Pantami remains a member of the APC until all due processes are properly followed and verified,” Kyari said.
