18 Dead as Gunmen Lunch fresh Brutal Attacks In Plateau

No fewer than 18 persons have been reported following fresh attacks by gunmen on Kawel and Kopkon communities, in Mushere district, Bokkos LGA of Plateau state.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency reporter, that troops of Sector 5, under Operation Enduring Peace, responded to the coordinated attacks at about 1:20am on June 20.

Furthermore, soldiers arrived at the scene and found six bodies in Kopkon village and twelve bodies in Kawel village.

In addition, the military immediately launched an operation in the surrounding area to locate and arrest the fleeing suspects.

Meanwhile, following repeated attacks on villages in the area, Operation Enduring Peace has increased security deployments and patrols across several parts of Plateau State

This comes amid growing insecurity crisis and bandit attacks across the state and the region.

Gunmen Kill Farmer, Rustle 50 Cows

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have killed a 47-year-old farmer, Samuel Tsok, in fresh attack launched on Duru-Kamang community in Foron District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State in the early hours of Saturday, May 23, 2026.

Residents described the attack as a targeted one against the farmer, who reportedly kept hundreds of livestock. After killing him, the invaders also stole 50 of his cows.

As Gunmen Launch Fresh Deadly Attack, Kill 8

On Thursday, April 9, gunmen launched fresh attack on Mbwelle village in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing at least eight persons.
Sources gathered that most of the victims were members of the same family.

Those who lost their lives include; Elder Iliya Mangut Dakus, Mr Luck Titus Dakus, Mr Habila Istifanu Dakus, Mr Hassan Istifanus Dakus, Mrs Hassan Moses Dakus, Biggie Lucky Dakus, Sunday Gideon Dakus and Mr Innocent Barnabas Makwin.

Meanwhile, Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has accused desperate politicians of fueling the recurring insecurity and violent attacks in the state.

Speaking during a  recent press delegation at the Government House in Jos, Governor Caleb Mutfwang alleged that politics directly fuels the brutal waves of violence sweeping through local communities. Addressing the tragic pattern of armed attackers killing innocent residents, he explicitly noted that these devastating incursions routinely spike during election seasons.

He referenced past tragedies, including the March 7, 2010 Dogo Nahawa attack, where over 1,000 people were reportedly killed, and the March 29 assault in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North LGA, which claimed more than 30 lives, noting that such incidents often align with political cycles.
