‘My Time Has Come to Govern Imo’ — Anyanwu Declares

The Peoples Democratic Party factional national secretary, Samuel Anyanwu has boldly declared that it is his turn to govern the affairs of Imo State after Ikedi Ohakim, Emeka Ihedioha, and Hope Uzodimma.

Anyanwu made these remarks in Owerri, the Imo State capital at the start of a group called the ‘Polling Unit Movement for Sam Daddy.’ ‘Sam Daddy’ is Anyanwu’s politics moniker.

The PDP chieftain also noted that all of his fellow leaders who later took charge of the state came from “the old PDP in Imo,” stressing that it would be fair and just to give him the opportunity to lead when the voters go to the polls next year.

He said, “We were four strong PDP members, myself, Hope Uzodimma, Ikedi Ohakim, and Emeka Ihedioha.

“As God may have it, all three of them have ruled over Imo state, and I have remained myself. I have come to take my turn and I believe the other contestants will make space for me.”

Speaking further, he acknowledged that there is competition for political power, but he maintained his commitment to his objectives.

Additionally, he stated that he is optimistic about the PDP’s future, pointing out that the party is becoming more powerful and attracting more members.

Anyanwu said: “Fortunately, the PDP is becoming stronger and more united today. Our number is also growing by thousands.

“I’m saying this clearly and honestly, PDP is the only party our people really trust, and we won’t let the people of Imo down.”

Backstory…

Samuel Anyanwu’s governorship bid comes three months after the PDP faction loyal to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, elected Abdulrahman Mohammed as its substantive National Chairman and  as its National Secretary.

At the PDP’s 2026 national convention, which took place on Sunday at the Moshood Abiola Stadium’s velodrome in Abuja, Mohammed and Anyanwu, together with 19 other members of the new national working committee, came to an agreement.

While speaking during the event, FCT minister said, “I congratulate all of you who stood firm when the storm raged. You showed exemplary resilience when push came to shove. You refused to be downcast when those who pretended to be leaders of the party betrayed you disgracefully”.

It’s My Turn To Rule Nigeria

The phrase ‘it’s my turn’ appearing once again in the Nigerian political landscape publicly appeared for the first time  in 2022 when Bola Ahmed Tinubu insisted that he will run as president of the nation.

In a speech broadcast on local TV on Friday, the 70-year-old Tinubu told a party meeting in Ogun state that he had supported Buhari on the understanding that he would contest the 2023 presidential election.

He said, “It is my time, I’m educated, I’m experienced. I have been serving you (Buhari) for a long time, bring me (the) presidency, it is my turn.”

“If not for me that stood behind Buhari he wouldn’t have become the president.”
