Rotimi Amaechi alleges politicians hijack result sheets, endanger Independent National Electoral Commission ad-hoc staff

The vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Rotimi Amaechi, has alleged that politicians often manipulate elections by seizing result sheets at polling units.

Amaechi claimed that such actions put the lives of ad-hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission at risk, as they are often caught in the middle of political interference.

Speaking to a group of youths, the former Rivers State governor urged Nigerians to remain at polling units after casting their votes to ensure proper counting and transparency.

He stressed that the polling unit remains the most critical stage of the electoral process, warning that it is often where irregularities begin.

Amaechi called on voters to insist on seeing and confirming result sheets before officials leave, saying public vigilance is key to preventing manipulation.

He also encouraged mass civic participation, arguing that large public presence at INEC offices and polling centres could discourage attempts to rig elections.

According to him, citizens must take responsibility for defending their votes if they want credible elections in the future.
