On Monday, July 13, 2026, the Minister of Science and Technology, Godfrey Uche Nnaji—who is also the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship candidate for Enugu State in the 2027 general election—is scheduled to be arraigned before Justice Abdulmalik Joyce of the Federal High Court in Abuja over alleged corruption-related offenses.
Sources familiar with the matter told SaharaReporters on Saturday that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) will head the arraignment following a months-long investigation.
The insider claimed that the anti-graft agency concluded its inquiry after acting on a petition filed by the Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA Resource Center).
The source also confirmed that Nnaji was arrested at an airport following what investigators described as persistent attempts to evade capture.
The source said, “The ICPC lead investigator has assured of a watertight case against the former minister.”
The scheduled arraignment follows the immediate past minister’s arrest by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Meanwhile, the anti-graft agency revealed that Nnaji was detained on July 1, 2026, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja upon his arrival in Nigeria. This occurred following the execution of a bench warrant issued by the Federal High Court.
Speaking in a statement, by its Head of Media and Public Communications, J. Okor Odey, the ICPC said the arrest was carried out with the assistance of the Department of State Services (DSS), after which the former minister was handed over to the commission for further investigation.
Backstory…
Uche Nnaji’s planned arraignment follows weeks of investigations by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) into allegations of corruption and abuse of office during his tenure as Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology.
The case has attracted significant public attention because it comes after earlier controversies surrounding the former minister, including allegations questioning the authenticity of his academic credentials.
Although Nnaji has consistently denied any wrongdoing and dismissed the certificate forgery claims as politically motivated, the allegations have remained a recurring issue in public discourse and were widely debated during his time in office
