US-Iran War: Trump Threatens Sanctions on Countries Supporting Iran

Amid the escalating US-Iran war, US President Donald Trump has announced the launch of a major new economic initiative targeting Iran, warning that any nation doing business with or providing assistance to the country will face severe financial consequences.

This intensified economic campaign unfolds as the conflict enters its sixth month without a clear military or diplomatic resolution in sight.

Meanwhile, with the upcoming November elections approaching, Trump faces growing domestic political scrutiny over his handling of the war.

On his Truth Social, he wrote, “Today, I am announcing the MOST CRUSHING ECONOMIC OPERATION EVER TAKEN AGAINST ANY COUNTRY! This will be Economic Warfare and Isolation on an unprecedented scale.”

“I am also announcing that ANY country that allows its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities to provide any type of lifeline to Iran will itself face TREMENDOUS Economic Consequences.”

While Iran was the only country explicitly named, he did not detail the specific penalties that other nations aiding Tehran would face.

This announcement comes nearly a week after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the administration would subject the nation to economic isolation “like the world has never seen before.”

Despite a recent lull in missile strikes, Iran has maintained a effective blockade on shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz following the collapse of a failed US-Iran agreement to reopen the strategic waterway.

Although both sides had acknowledged exchanging communications in recent days, Trump stated on Tuesday that negotiations were officially called off, later suggesting on social media that the strait could become a “NEW U.S. Territory.”

Iran Slams Trump’s Economic Pressure Plan

Reacting to Trump’s statement, Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, slammed US President Donald Trump’s plan for economic sanctions against Tehran on Thursday, calling it a continuation of “failed policies” that would lead to Washington’s “further defeat.”

“The so-called ‘Economic D-Day’ is a diversion from America’s own crisis: unprecedented debt & surging interest costs. Doubling down on failed policies will only bring further defeat — and enmity of Iranians,” Araghchi said in a post on X.

“US economic terrorism threatens global economy and sovereignty worldwide.”
