2027 General Election: ‘Leave if You Won’t Support APC,’ Kuje Chairman Threatens Residents

Kuje Area Council Chairman Samuel Danjuma Shekwolo has vowed to oppose residents who plan to vote against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

In a viral video circulating on social media, Shekwolo said that he would not permit any member of the council administration to undermine President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid or campaign against the ruling party.

He urged residents to support the ruling party, citing development projects carried out in the area council under Tinubu and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

The chairman justified his position by highlighting the ongoing infrastructure and development initiatives spearheaded by President Tinubu and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike across the area council. Shekwolo also said he would use his position to frustrate opposition to the APC during the 2027 general elections.

According to him, “I have said in my area council that it’s either you are for the APC or you leave the area council. I am not arguing about it at all.

“You know why? I cannot have the Minister and the President doing what they are doing, then on the day of the election, you will now say you want to match me. I will not agree.

“It’s either you are with us or you are against us.”

Backstory…

The controversy comes as political mobilisation for the 2027 general election intensifies, with the APC and opposition parties already building alliances and campaigning for support.

His comments have attracted attention because they come at a time when Nigeria’s 2027 election politics is increasingly being framed around political leaders’ ability to “deliver” their states or constituencies for Tinubu.

Similarly, just days before the Kuje controversy, Wike said his political job was essentially to make opposition leaders uncomfortable. He said he did not want opposition politicians to “feel well” and that his business was to keep them under pressure so they would have “high blood pressure.”

Wike has also openly described his political objective as delivering Rivers State and the FCT for Tinubu in 2027.
