The University of Ibadan has announced a new opportunity for graduates and working professionals seeking postgraduate education without having to leave their jobs, businesses or families behind.
The university, through its Postgraduate College, says selected academic and professional postgraduate programmes for the 2026 intake have been approved by the Senate for 100% online delivery through its UI eCampus platform.
The announcement, published on August 25, 2026, means eligible applicants in Nigeria, other African countries and the diaspora will be able to pursue University of Ibadan postgraduate qualifications remotely. According to the university’s announcement carried by The Guardian, the programmes will be taught by University of Ibadan faculty and delivered entirely online.
For many Nigerian professionals, this could remove one of the biggest barriers to postgraduate study: the need to relocate or regularly report to a physical campus.
The official UI eCampus website describes the platform as a fully online postgraduate learning environment with no campus attendance required. It also says students will have access to lectures, coursework, tutoring, academic support and a digital library containing more than 170,000 resources.
What programmes will University of Ibadan offer online?
The 2026 UI eCampus offering covers postgraduate diplomas, master’s programmes and professional master’s programmes, with the platform also listing doctoral-level study.
Among the academic master’s programmes currently listed are Computer Science, Computer Networking and Cybersecurity, Data and Information Science, Psychology, Sociology, Statistics, Energy Studies, Accounting, Education and Law.
The professional offerings include an MBA, Professional Master in Business Computing, Professional Master in Entrepreneurship Studies, Professional Master of Information Resources Management and other specialised programmes.
The platform also lists a Doctor of Business Administration with specialisations including finance and accounting, marketing, entrepreneurship, oil and gas, and data science and business analytics.
For Nigerians interested in technology and emerging careers, programmes such as Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data and Information Science and Web Application Development could be particularly relevant as employers increasingly demand digital and specialised skills.
The university says the online model is designed around professionals who need to study while continuing with their careers. It also states that students outside Nigeria can apply and participate remotely.

The UI eCampus initiative follows a partnership between the University of Ibadan and education technology company Astria Learning.
The two organisations signed a Memorandum of Agreement on May 13, 2026, to establish a digital campus that would extend the university’s accredited postgraduate programmes to learners across Nigeria, Africa and the diaspora. The Guardian reported in May that the first cohort was planned for August 2026.
The new platform is separate from the University’s traditional Distance Learning Centre. UI eCampus is specifically positioned as an online postgraduate platform, with its own digital learning environment and admissions process.
The university says the initiative allows it to widen access to postgraduate education while retaining its academic authority. Its official platform states that UI eCampus operates under the University’s academic authority and that eligible students can earn University of Ibadan postgraduate qualifications online.
That distinction is important for prospective students, particularly those who may come across different online programmes using the University of Ibadan name.
Admission requirements and how to prepare
Prospective applicants are expected to satisfy both the university’s general requirements and any additional conditions attached to their chosen programme.
The current UI eCampus admission requirements include acceptable identification documents, relevant O’Level qualifications, a recognised university degree, three recommendation or referee reports and a current CV. Nigerian applicants are also required to provide a valid NYSC discharge or exemption certificate where applicable.
Applicants for academic and professional master’s programmes as well as postgraduate diplomas must also pass the University of Ibadan’s Test of Proficiency in English. The university says the test is conducted completely online, takes approximately one hour and has a minimum pass mark of 40 per cent. M.Phil., PhD and DBA applicants are exempt from the test.
As of August 25, 2026, the university’s published announcement says applications for the new intake will open soon. Prospective students can already review the programme information, download the prospectus and check the admission requirements through the official UI eCampus website. The university says application dates, programme-specific procedures and closing dates will be published through the platform.
