Ayra Starr: I’ll control my man if I earn more than him

Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has shared her views on financial differences in relationships, saying she would be controlling if she were to date a man who was less wealthy than her.

The ‘Bloody Samaritan’ hitmaker made this known during an episode of the Wahala podcast, where she discussed financial expectations and the roles of partners in relationships.

Ayra Starr said that even if she earned more than her partner, she would still expect him to provide for her.

She also disclosed that she would not reveal the full extent of her wealth to a man who was financially less wealthy than her.

“If I date a man who I am richer than, I will control him. But even if I am richer, he will still be providing, and I won’t let him know I have a lot of money,” she said.

The singer’s remarks have sparked mixed reactions, with some people agreeing with her view that providing for a woman remains a man’s responsibility even when she earns more.

However, others criticised her stance, particularly her suggestion that she would conceal her financial status from a future partner if she were wealthier than him.

BACKSTORY:

Ayra Starr has previously been open about her views on relationships, independence and the expectations placed on men and women. Her latest comments have renewed discussions about financial responsibility in relationships, particularly when a woman earns more than her male partner. While some believe men should continue to provide regardless of their partner’s income, others argue that financial transparency and shared responsibilities are important in modern relationships.
