Tinubu Arrives in Paris as Three-Week European Leave Enters Second Phase

President Bola Tinubu has begun the second part of his three-week annual leave in Paris, France.

The President arrived in the French capital on Sunday after spending the first part of his vacation in London.

The Presidency confirmed that Tinubu’s three-week trip forms part of his annual leave. He departed Abuja on August 30.

Tinubu is expected to spend the remainder of his vacation in France before returning to Nigeria. His arrival in Paris marks the beginning of the second phase of his trip.

The President is expected to resume political activities and preparations for the 2027 general election after his vacation.

Since taking office in May 2023, Tinubu has visited France several times, making Paris one of his most frequent international destinations.

Political activity has also intensified ahead of the 2027 elections, with the President’s European holiday drawing attention. The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has already begun developing its campaign platform.

After the three-week vacation, Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria and resume his official duties.

Backstory…

The timing is important because Tinubu’s leave comes as 2027 political activities are moving into full gear. INEC opened the campaign period on August 19, meaning parties and candidates can now formally intensify rallies, mobilisation and other campaign activities.

Tinubu is seeking a second term on the APC platform and is expected to face a field that includes Atiku Abubakar of the ADC and Peter Obi of the NDC.

Tinubu’s latest arrival in Paris comes only a few months after his previous visit to France in May 2026, when he travelled to the country as part of efforts to deepen Nigeria’s economic and investment ties with European partners.

It also follows Tinubu’s March 2026 state visit to the United Kingdom, where he and First Lady Remi Tinubu were hosted by King Charles III
