Desmond Elliot, a lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has apologised to President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, over his actions during the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in May.
A widely circulated video on social media shows Elliot bowing before Gbajabiamila and pleading for his forgiveness.
“I don’t have any excuse. I have nothing to say other than that I am deeply sorry, sir. In our culture, we prostrate,” he said.
Gbajabiamila said in May that Elliot nearly lost his position over his role in the impeachment of Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa during the 2025 leadership crisis.
A majority of lawmakers accused Obasa of gross misconduct and abuse of office, leading to his removal as speaker. The lawmakers subsequently elected Mojisola Meranda, who was then the deputy speaker, as the first female speaker of the House.
Following Tinubu’s intervention, Obasa returned as speaker after Meranda resigned 49 days into her tenure.
Elliot later apologised to Gbajabiamila, saying he believed Tinubu supported the move to remove Obasa from office.
The incident strained the relationship between the two politicians, after which Gbajabiamila backed Odunuga-Bakare to replace Elliot, who was seeking a fourth term in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Elliot contested the primary despite losing Gbajabiamila’s support but failed to secure the party’s ticket.
He vowed to challenge the result, rejected the outcome of the primary and alleged that his supporters faced harassment and repression.

Recall that in May, after Citing alleged intimidation of his supporters, Lagos State lawmaker Desmond Elliot pulled out of the All Progressives Congress primary contest for the Surulere 1 seat in the House of Assembly.
During the party’s primary at the Paddington mini stadium on Western Avenue, Elliot announced his withdrawal from the race.
The actor-turned-politician further claimed that despite his repeated efforts, the electoral officers refused to let his followers enter the polling place.
