Citing alleged intimidation of his supporters, Lagos State lawmaker Desmond Elliot has formally pulled out of the All Progressives Congress primary contest for the Surulere 1 seat in the House of Assembly.
At the party’s primary on Wednesday at the Paddington mini stadium on Western Avenue, Elliot announced his withdrawal from the race.
The actor-turned-politician further claimed that despite his repeated efforts, the electoral officers refused to let his followers enter the polling place.
He said, “And of course, in all zones, they’ve been intimidating and stopping us. I want to officially announce my withdrawal from this particular race. This is my ward. If you go outside, those are my people outside.”
“They’ve not been allowed,” Elliot stated shortly before announcing his withdrawal from the contest.
Following the development, his supporters staged a peaceful protest and gradually exited the venue alongside him.
Elliot also clarified that he chose to leave the location in order to prevent any disruption of law and order, emphasising that no election was worth the deaths.
Additionally, he urged the APC leadership to guarantee a free and fair election process throughout the state.
