Nigeria Innovation Summit 2026 to Focus on AI, Emerging Technology and Africa’s Future

Nigeria Innovation Summit 2026 to Focus on AI, Emerging Technology and Africa’s Future

Nigeria is preparing for another conversation about how technology can move beyond headlines and become a practical tool for solving real-world problems, as the Nigeria Innovation Summit 2026 gets set to hold in Lagos on October 6.

The 11th edition of the summit, organised by InnovationHub Africa, will be held at Shell Hall, MUSON Centre, from 9am to 5pm. The hybrid event is expected to bring together entrepreneurs, technology professionals, investors, policymakers, researchers, business leaders and stakeholders from Nigeria and beyond.

The summit comes as artificial intelligence increasingly influences the way organisations work, products are developed and public services are delivered. For Nigeria, the bigger question is no longer whether AI is important, but how quickly the country can build the skills, infrastructure, policies and businesses needed to benefit from it.

AI takes centre stage as Nigeria weighs its next technology move

The central theme of NIS 2026 is “Innovating in the Age of AI”, placing artificial intelligence at the heart of discussions about Nigeria’s innovation future.

According to the official summit programme, major conversations will examine how AI can be applied in education, agriculture and healthcare, three areas where better access, lower costs and more efficient systems could have social impact.

One featured discussion, “AI for Africa: Transforming Education, Agriculture & Healthcare at Scale,” is expected to focus on practical use cases rather than technology for its own sake. Another session, “Building Trusted AI for Africa: Policy, Regulation, Data Governance, and Investment for the Future,” will look at the rules, safeguards and funding required to support responsible AI adoption.

The summit will also touch on business transformation, entrepreneurship, digital infrastructure, innovation policy, research commercialisation, inclusion and the future of work. These conversations are relevant for Nigerian businesses trying to understand how AI can improve productivity while remaining suited to local realities.

Leaders, startups and innovators to share the same room

The event’s speaker line-up reflects the broad approach organisers are taking. The NIS platform lists Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Nigerian Communications Commission Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Aminu Maida, and NNPC Limited Chief Innovation Officer Rasheed O. Ojulari among the featured speakers.

Updates also show speakers and moderators coming from areas including voice AI, digital transformation, strategy, entrepreneurship and creative innovation. That mix gives the summit room to examine AI from the perspective of government, business and the people building products.

Beyond the discussions, attendees will have access to NiX Talks, exhibitions, innovation showcases, networking sessions and product demonstrations. Selected participants are also expected to take part in innovation tours designed to expose them to organisations building or deploying technology in Nigeria.

The official platform says NIS is designed to support connections among stakeholders while helping participants identify business, career and partnership opportunities. Physical attendance is free, although registration is required, and virtual participation is available.

Back story: NIS has grown with Nigeria’s innovation ecosystem

The Nigeria Innovation Summit is an annual initiative of InnovationHub Africa, which describes the platform as a meeting point for stakeholders to exchange ideas and explore how emerging technologies can support sustainable economic development.

The organisation says its work includes technology promotion, innovation programmes and partnerships that connect Nigerian businesses and innovators with global ecosystems. The summit has evolved alongside Nigeria’s technology landscape, with previous editions covering themes such as sustainable innovation and building a culture of innovation.

At the 2025 edition, which marked the summit’s 10th year, startups, technology leaders, policymakers and other stakeholders gathered under the theme “Sustainable Innovation.” The event also featured the Nigeria Innovation Awards, which recognised individuals and organisations making contributions to the country’s innovation ecosystem, according to TechEconomy.

Now, with AI moving rapidly into education, finance, healthcare, media, energy and everyday business operations, the 2026 edition arrives at a timely moment.

Rather than treating artificial intelligence as a distant technology story, NIS 2026 places the conversation closer to the realities facing businesses, institutions and young Nigerians. The bigger test will be whether ideas discussed in Lagos translate into stronger policy, better skills, useful products and measurable solutions after the summit ends.
