In a GQ magazine interview following a recent visit to Britain with Meghan and their two children, 42-year-old Prince Harry voiced his wish to reconcile with King Charles and the rest of his relatives, following a rift triggered by his move to the United States six years ago.
The British royal family experienced severe strains after Harry and his wife stepped down from royal responsibilities and moved to California in 2020.
While Harry has recently started communicating with his father again, he has barely spoken to his elder brother and heir, Prince William, for several years.
‘Most important thing is to reconcile’
“With everything else that’s going on in the world, the most important thing is to reconcile,” he told GQ.
He noted that he could understand why his family’s situation captures public attention, as many people relate to their struggles.
“There’s sibling disagreements, there’s broken relationships between kids and their parents, kids and one parent,” he said.
He added that witnessing steps toward reconciliation might encourage others and positively influence their own personal relationships.
“And some people don’t want it to work out. I want it to work out,” he added.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Harry clarified that these comments were not directed as a slight toward William or any other family member.
Additionally, Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, went also said that while “scars stick around forever”, he wanted to encourage everybody to let go of the past.
Backstory…
Recall that in August, Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, returned to the UK, six years after stepping back as senior working royals.
According to The Telegraph, King Charles III’s youngest son and his spouse have made the unexpected decision to leave the United States by the end of the month to settle in a private, non-royal residence outside London.
Prince Harry’s renewed call for reconciliation with the British Royal Family comes after years of strained relations with his father, King Charles III, and elder brother, Prince William, following his decision to step away from royal duties with his wife, Meghan Markle, in 2020.
The couple subsequently relocated to the United States, where they publicly discussed their experiences within the monarchy, deepening tensions with members of the Royal Family.
The rift intensified in 2021 when Harry and Meghan gave a televised interview to Oprah Winfrey, making allegations about their treatment within the Royal Family, including concerns reportedly raised about the skin colour of their unborn son.
