2027: Atiku Abubakar’s Son Dumps Father, Joins Wike’s Camp to Back Tinubu

Abba Atiku Abubakar, son of African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, disclosed that he has partnered with Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike to secure President Bola Tinubu’s reelection in the upcoming presidential race.

Delivering ten campaign buses to the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja on Friday, he pledged to win his home state of Adamawa and mobilize two million votes for President Tinubu.

He stated that after supporting his father’s previous presidential bids twice, he will now direct his efforts toward electing President Tinubu, citing the President’s policies and superior victory prospects.

“I recognise that political decisions, particularly those that differ from the positions of individuals with whom one shares personal or family relationships, often attract considerable public attention. I am equally conscious that my own political decision may be viewed within this context.

“However, I wish to make one fundamental point: political conviction is a matter of personal judgement, conscience and the freedom of every individual to make independent choices.

“My decision to establish and lead the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation is a deliberate political choice, one I have made in my personal capacity and with a firm belief in the direction we have chosen to pursue. I hold no reservations about the right of others to their differing political opinions, just as I expect my own convictions to be respected.

“Our democracy is strengthened when individuals are free to make independent political choices, engage in constructive dialogue and support the leadership and political platforms they believe best represent their aspirations,” he said.

Backstory…

Abba’s move is not entirely new, as he had already defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in January 2026.

At the time, he announced his support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition and directed members of his political organisation, then known as the Haske Atiku Organisation, to join the APC and work for the President’s re-election.

He was received into the party by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and other APC leaders.

The development also brings the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, into the picture. Abba disclosed that his organisation would work with Wike’s political structure to mobilise support for Tinubu in the FCT and Rivers State.

This comes just days after Wike’s Rainbow Coalition, comprising politicians from different parties, endorsed Tinubu for a second term and unveiled its preferred candidates for the 2027 elections in Rivers State.
