Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), asserted on Friday that President Bola Tinubu’s administration plans to assassinate him, warning that his life remains in grave danger.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today following a recent assault against him in Ekiti State, Sowore noted that he has posed a persistent challenge to successive Nigerian governments since the age of twenty.
Sowore added that the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police knows the identities of the individuals who carried out the attack.
He said: “The Commissioner of Police came to see us while we were being treated so he knew the people who attacked us. When he left, people were saying that ‘Sowore, you better leave because ‘Oga knows these people.’
“Don’t forget that when I went to Port Harcourt, it was the same way that they were tracking me all over, they placed a tracker under my car and it was traced to the DSS, so what are we arguing about? Why do you think they took me to court, and charged me for calling Tinubu a criminal?
“My life is at stake and I have been a threat to the government since I was 20 years old. I’m opposed to the illegitimacy of the government, where you not here when Buhari abducted me from a hotel in Lagos? Is it not the same APC government?
“The issue is that we were attacked unprovoked in Ekiti State, I have been a threat and they want to kill me.”
‘They beat me like a criminal’
During a Friday appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Sowore detailed how a mob of thugs ambushed and brutally assaulted him.
He explained that the daylight attack occurred while he was meeting with supporters at a restaurant in Ado-Ekiti.
“They beat me like a criminal. They came from nowhere, about 20 of them, armed with sticks and bottles. They said they will kill me if I come to Ekiti again,” Sowore said.
Sowore alleged that although eyewitnesses recorded the attack on camera, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the police seized the video footage to cover up the incident.
The Ekiti State Government has yet to respond to his allegations that state officials sponsored the assault to silence opposition voices.
Despite the violence, the activist declared that he remains unbowed and will continue his fight for democracy and justice in Nigeria.
‘The guy who led attack against me is on Ekiti govt payroll’
Meanwhile, the AAC candidate has made a shocking revelation about the attack on him in Ado-Ekiti.
He claims that the suspect is a well-known political thug in the state who was given a government position.
“The guy that led my attack is on Ekiti govt payroll. He is not a hidden person. He is a Senior Special Assistant to the Governor. I have his name, I have his picture,” Sowore said.
