Ogun INEC REC collapses, dies in Abuja.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of Ogun State, Barrister ‘Niyi Ijalaye, tragically passed away in Abuja on Monday evening. He had attended a meeting of RECs at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters before returning to his hotel room, where he reportedly collapsed and died.
A source from the Ogun State INEC headquarters disclosed that Barrister Ijalaye was in good spirits throughout the meeting, which focused on upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States, as well as other vacant positions. After the meeting, he retired to his hotel in the Federal Capital Territory, where the unfortunate incident occurred.
Ijalaye, who was originally from Ondo State, had been serving as the REC for Ogun State since March 2022, following the transfer of his predecessor, Olusegun Agbaje, to Lagos State. His sudden passing has shocked many, especially considering he had appeared lively during the day’s activities.
