At the resumed sitting, counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, appeared for the prosecution, while Yahaya Bello was represented by his lead counsel, Mr. Joseph Daudu.

During the hearing, the prosecution requested additional time to respond to applications filed by the defence team. However, Bello’s lawyers urged the court to consider their submissions and proceed with the matter without further delay.

Ruling on the matter, Justice Nwite adjourned the case to May 6 to enable all parties to properly prepare and to ensure a fair hearing process.

Yahaya Bello is currently standing trial over allegations of financial misappropriation during his time in office as governor—claims he has consistently denied.

The case is expected to continue on the adjourned date.
