Nollywood actor Emeka Ike has formally filed a lawsuit against INEC and Lere Olayinka, media aide to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, over the alleged leak of his voter registration details.
Emeka Ike in the suit is demanding ₦10 billion in damages, claiming his right to privacy was violated after screenshots of his voter registration transfer were shared on X.
Recall that INEC had previously stated that the disclosure was not the result of a hack but the misuse of internal credentials.
The actor is also demanding that the court hold both parties liable, order the removal of the post, and compel Olayinka to issue a public apology.
Backstory…
This comes after the actor on June 2 expressed dissatisfaction with the results of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) primary election for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) seat, sparking a protest at the INEC office in Abuja.
Ike, who recently declared his bid for a House of Representatives seat, stormed the INEC office, alleging that the primary election was conducted irregularly.
Meanwhile, findings gathered revealed that this comes after the actor lost the party’s primaries.
Addressing officials during the protest, Ike expressed anger over the electoral process, insisting that he would not remain silent over.
He said, “We don’t have an address when the election is going on. I am an aspirant, I’m a Nigerian.
“You won’t go away with this. I don’t do social media activism. INEC will not escape this”
