ADC Primary: Faction Declares Amaechi as Ebonyi Primary Winner

Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, former Governor of Rivers State and former Minister of Transportation, emerged as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) faction’s preferred presidential flag bearer in Ebonyi State after the ADC primary across the state’s 171 political wards on Monday.

Meanwhile, Bassey Edogi Imoke, Coordinator of Electoral Matters and Returning Officer, announced the results in Abakaliki. Amaechi polled 6,050 votes to defeat former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who received 1,210 votes, while Muhammad Hayatudeen scored 4,840 votes.

Imoke further explained that the ADC conducted the primary through a direct primary system across the state’s 171 political wards.

In addition, he said the party accredited 12,100 delegates, and they participated in the election out of the 12,641 delegates who registered for the exercise.

“The mood of the election is by direct primary. The type of election is presidential election conducted on May 25, 2026, across the 171 political wards in Ebonyi State.

“Total registered delegates in Ebonyi State were 12,641, while accredited delegates were 12,100. Total valid votes stood at 12,100.

“Atiku Abubakar scored 1,210 votes, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi scored 6,050 votes, while Muhammad Hayatuddeen scored 4,840 votes.

Speaking, Dr. Mrs. Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor, the ADC’s Ebonyi State Chairman, had earlier stated that the exercise had begun peacefully throughout the state with no reports of violence or irregularities.

She noted that the party’s earlier structure, in which delegates gathered at a single venue for the primaries, differed from the direct primary held across all wards.

BACKSTORY…

Meanwhile, this comes less than two days after the ADC faction led by Alhaji Abdulkkadir Mohammed Bashir formally adopted its presidential candidate in 2023, Dumebi Kachikwu as its candidate for the 2027 election.

On Sunday, the faction also dissolved the David Mark-led national working committee (NWC) and formally adopted Dumebi Kachikwu as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
