The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered a forensic investigation into the death of former Ondo State gubernatorial candidate, Mr. Bamidele Akingboye.

This directive comes in response to the circulation of a disturbing photograph on social media, showing Akingboye’s body with visible head injuries, raising serious concerns and suspicions about the actual cause of his death.
Earlier reports had claimed the politician died peacefully in his Victoria Garden City, VGC, residence in Lagos on Wednesday.
However, the viral image has triggered suspicion that foul play may have been involved.
Human rights groups have since urged the police to conduct a thorough, transparent, and credible investigation to unravel the circumstances behind his demise.
Confirming the development on its official X handle, @LagosPoliceNG, on Sunday, the command disclosed that CP Jimoh had instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, to discreetly handle the matter.

“The Commissioner has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCID, to discreetly investigate the death,” the statement read in part.
According to the command, detectives supported by the Crime Scene Investigation, CSI, unit visited the residence where the late politician’s body was found.
The area has since been sealed off while forensic specialists deploy advanced tools to collect and analyse evidence.
Akingboye, who flew the flag of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in the November 2024 Ondo governorship election, lost to the incumbent, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
