Arsenal FC loses the top spot of the Premier League to Manchester City again.

Fans of Arsenal FC are left wondering whether this is their fate: bottling every season or coming close to lifting the Premier League title.

Arsenal’s last Premier League title was in the 2003/2004 season under legendary coach Arsene Wenger, which is an incredible 21-year drought of not touching the prestigious silverware.

Year by year, they have come close to winning it but only to lose steam or exhibit a profound lack of confidence in their footballing abilities to clinch the league title. They have remained in history as the highest team with a huge number of title contenders’ tags attached to their names.

Some would call it a near-success syndrome, while true football fans call it “the bottle curse,” from which they can’t simply seem to escape, as the English Premier League just witnessed a fantastic title chase comeback from the current league champions, Manchester City, who were 8 points behind Arsenal.

Manchester City mounted an incredible comeback from 8 points behind to now be level at 70 points and a 37-goal difference with Arsenal, with only 5 games to go until the end of the season.

City faces Everton, Brentford, Bournemouth, Aston Villa, and Crystal Palace for the remaining games of the 2025/2026 Premier League season, while Arsenal faces Newcastle, Fulham, West Ham, Burnley, and Crystal Palace.

It will be worth noting that Arsenal’s remaining fixtures are looking easier with their opponents sitting in the bottom half of the Premier League table, while City’s fixtures are in the top half of the table.

Manchester City were able to scrape a 1-0 win over relegation-threatened Burnley, thanks to a first-half goal from Erling Haaland, which brought them above Arsenal but level on points. However, it looks like both teams will fight it down to the last game of the season, leaving fans and neutral fans alike with a great deal of suspense as to what will be a great spectacle and final curtain closer on the 2025/2026 Premier League season.

Backstory…

Arsenal FC have been chasing the Premier League title for over 20 years since their last triumph in the 2003/2004 season under Arsene Wenger.

Wenger tried to win the trophy again for the next 15 years before finally retiring in May 2018, spanning an incredible 22-year tenure in charge of the team. The current Aston Villa coach, Unai Emery, took charge from May 2018 to November 2019. He also couldn’t get his hands on the prestigious trophy before Mikel Arteta took over in December 2019 to date.
