Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged President Bola Tinubu to immediately declare a state of emergency over Nigeria’s worsening security challenges.

Atiku made the call on Friday in a statement shared on his Facebook page while reacting to the abduction of students in Niger State.
Earlier reports noted that terrorists attacked St. Mary Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State, kidnapping more than 50 students and staff members.
Reacting, Atiku wondered why the Tinubu-led Federal Government is yet to take a decisive action on the deteriorating security situation in the country.

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2023 general election said the latest attack was heartbreaking.
He wrote, “Not again. This is truly heartbreaking. How many more lives must be shattered before decisive action is taken?
“It is not too late for the government to finally declare a state of emergency in insecurity and confront this menace with the urgency it deserves.”
