The annual Christmas food-sharing event organized by the St. Vincent De Paul Society in the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja on Saturday recorded about ten casualties, including children who died at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Maitama, in Abuja.

ccording to police, 35 minors are recorded dead as a result of the Ibadan stampede incident, while six are in critical condition.

His call for comments on the matter went unanswered by the parish priest, neither did he get back to the person who sent him text messages on his mobile line at 1:14 pm and 1:35 pm, respectively.

The National Director of Social

Communications at the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), Padre Mike Nsikak Umoh, validated the unfortunate development, saying that the distribution of palliatives has been put on hold.

The account of a witness describes the scene as chaotic, describing it as tragic because at least seven of the dead are said to be children. The eyewitness account further noted that many people reported early at the venue waiting as early as 4:00 am so that they could secure their share of the palliatives before the stampede occurred sometime between 7:00 and 8:00 am when the crowd surged forward.

We have recorded ten dead, some of them children. We just received a call that they have passed on. Over 3,000 people came out to receive the palliative. It’s unfortunate. Most of them arrived as early as 4 am.”
