Chioma Chijioke Welcomes Newborn:Stirs Debate among netizens

Chioma Chijioke Welcomes Newborn and Stirs Debate on Length of Widowhood

Nollywood actress Chioma Chijioke has stirred up conversation on social media after announcing the birth of her baby boy with her new husband.

The news, initially met with congratulations, quickly turned into a heated debate as netizens voiced their opinions on Chioma’s timing in moving forward after the passing of her former husband, director Kingsley Anosike, who died in 2023.

While many fans celebrated the arrival of her newborn, some critics expressed that Chioma may have moved on too soon from mourning the loss of her late husband.

For them, the fact that only twenty-two months have passed since her husband’s death seemed too brief for mourning, suggesting she should have waited longer before starting a new relationship.

Others took things further, calling for a new investigation into Kingsley’s death, questioning if the timing raised any suspicions.

In response, supporters of Chioma were quick to clap back at the criticisms. Many pointed out the double standard between men and women when it comes to remarriage after loss.

One commenter observed that society often accepts men remarrying, while women face judgment for choosing to find love again. Another user reminded critics that it’s each person’s choice to move on in their own way, adding that if faced with a similar situation, critics might choose differently.

Rumors circulated that Chioma had married a pastor after Kingsley’s death, which fueled further speculation and mixed reactions online. The topic of how a widow should handle mourning has proven to be deeply personal, as shown in this lively debate.

While Chioma’s story has sparked a mix of supportive and critical reactions, her announcement highlighted the wide range of beliefs around grief and healing. Fans are divided, but many agree that each person has their own path to healing and deserve respect for their choices.

Transition Report: Committee looks into Edo loans of N410 billion

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo’s Transition Committee has suggested looking into the state’s estimated N410 billion in local and foreign debts.

The committee’s suggestion was made Monday in its report, which was given to Sen. Monday Okpebholo, the state’s fifth democratically elected governor-elect, before his inauguration on Tuesday.
“Those of you who possess the ability to verify information will discover that the amount of debt in today’s society is significantly higher. He stated, “It is more than N500 billion.”
The committee also suggested a review of Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) on the management of Central and Stella Obasanjo hospitals, according to Odubu, a former deputy governor of the state.

“All recent employment should be terminated, and the governor should look into who really owns the Raddisson Blu Hotel and the Ossiomo power plant.

The Museum of West Africa Arts, or MOWAA, is no different. Since the departing administration was silent on these questions, we are entitled to know the state’s ownership stake in these businesses. We also called for a thorough examination of the EdoBest initiative, which is supported by the World Bank, and the implementation of an investigation to reveal its sometimes murky workings.

“Every major contract that the state government has issued under the Ministry of Roads and Bridges ought to be examined because it seems that due process was not followed, including the payment advance given to the contractors.”In its own assessment, the procurement agency accused the government to the Transition Committee, thus we’ve suggested that the next governor do a critical evaluation,” he stated.

The state’s information and communication technology (ICT) ecosystem has to be streamlined, according to the committee chairman, who also claimed that there seemed to be a duplication of effort.
The committee is recommending that the government launch an investigation into the previous government’s failure to deliver audited financial statements, whether they were publicized or not.

“We demand a proper teacher headcount because the government was unable to account for the number of teachers in the state,” Odubu stated.

According to the committee chairman, the study, which consists of 800 annexures and a 24-page report, was the result of three weeks of intense work, meetings, exchanges, engagements, and assessments of the materials that were submitted to the committee.

“We are pleased to submit to Your Excellency our report, which is based on our findings following a thorough review and evaluation of the official documents that the departing government transition team sent.

It may be of interest to you, Your Excellency, because the report that is being presented to you this afternoon was created with input from all of us during the many team meetings that we held.

“We spent time looking at additional information that was made available to the committee through our interactions with pertinent stakeholders in the state, in addition to closely examining the five thematic pillars as outlined by the government’s transition team.

In response, the governor-elect said the document would benefit the future government and praised the committee members for their meticulous work.

Jaywon Shades Ayra Starr after She Got No Nomination

Jaywon Shades Ayra Starr after She Got No Nomination

Jaywon recently joined the conversation surrounding Ayra Starr’s absence from the 2024 Grammy nominations, offering his thoughts in a way that stirred reactions online. The singer shared a photo of himself holding two Grammy Awards, captioned with a reminder that “man is not God.”

This subtle shade, paired with supportive words, caught attention as many felt Jaywon’s words were both a reminder and a gentle nudge at the young singer.

Though Ayra Starr, known for her hit song “Rush,” was not nominated this year, Jaywon emphasized he’s a big fan of her work. He praised her vocal talent and acknowledged her as one of Africa’s top female artists.

However, he also seemed to imply that treating others well matters in the industry, suggesting that success doesn’t come by putting others down. In his view, Nigerian and African artists should lift each other, building legacies for the future, not just the present.

The conversation around Jaywon’s post sparked different reactions from fans and social media users. Some supported his sentiment, agreeing that Ayra Starr should focus on her relationships with others in the industry.

Others took the post as a jab at her and jumped to her defense, feeling Jaywon’s comments might be rooted in past issues.

One Twitter user, @te3_tia, joked about Jaywon’s age, while another, @Ojodale46, claimed Jaywon “is bigger than her” in their book. Another, @iamkeyzeeto, humorously speculated that Jaywon might have been part of the group discussing Ayra’s potential Grammy chances.

While the Grammy nomination snub has left some fans disappointed, Ayra Starr continues to enjoy a strong fan base and influence in the music scene. Jaywon’s post serves as a reminder of both the importance of talent and the value of maintaining positive connections in the industry.

In the end, the discussion around Jaywon’s remarks only highlighted Ayra’s growing impact and the support she still enjoys from her fans, Grammy or not.

Vladimir Putin’s Russia Signs Military Treaty with N.Korea

Source Image: BBC

North Korea ratified a significant defense deal with Vladimir Putin’s Russia requiring mutual military aid, the isolated country’s state media stated, as the US, South Korea, and Ukraine claimed Pyongyang sent thousands of troops to back Russia’s conflict.

The treaty binds both countries to utilize all available resources to provide quick military aid if one is attacked. Some commentators believe that the treaty’s adoption in both nations could signify that North Korea would formally enter the Russia-Ukraine conflict shortly.

On the battlefield, Ukraine’s soldiers are fighting nearly 50,000 enemy troops in Russia’s Kursk region, President Volodymyr Zelensky warned.

Ukraine’s senior commander, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, said Wednesday that Ukraine’s invasion into the Kursk operation was still successfully distracting Russian forces from making more serious attacks on the eastern front. He corroborated a New York Times claim that Moscow had gathered some 50,000 troops in Kursk.

According to the NYT, citing a US assessment, Russia has increased its force in Kursk, where North Korean forces have reportedly been stationed in recent days, without having to relocate troops from eastern Ukraine.

IPMAN and Dangote Refinery agree to lift gasoline and other goods directly

Breaking: IPMAN and Dangote Refinery agree to lift gasoline and other goods directly

Dangote Refinery and the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) have finally reached an agreement for direct product lifting.
After a meeting of the Association’s National Working Committee, IPMAN National President Abubakar Garima announced this development in Abuja on Monday.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) suspended its ambition to be the exclusive off-taker of petroleum products from the refinery that produces 650,000 barrels per day months prior.

According to Garima, the partnership would guarantee a consistent and reasonably priced supply of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) goods nationwide.

“He said,” “We are happy to say that Dangote Refinery has agreed to supply IPMAN with PMS, AGO, and DPK directly for delivery to our depots and retail outlets,” the statement reads following a meeting with Aliko Dangote and his management team in Lagos.
Citing the advantages of backward integration and the favorable effects on Nigeria’s foreign exchange market, Garima asked IPMAN members to embrace Dangote Refinery.

Garima advised IPMAN members to depend on Nigerian refineries and the Dangote Refinery for white goods.

He stated that in order to assist President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda and generate more job opportunities, IPMAN members should depend on Dangote and Nigerian refineries for white products. In terms of pricing, Garima was hopeful that talks with Dangote Refinery would lead to more affordable prices for petroleum items.

He did not, however, specify the price at which the marketers plan to buy the product from Dangote.

Regarding Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Garima emphasized IPMAN’s plans to set up CNG filling stations across the country. The president of IPMAN also gave members the assurance that the Association would collaborate closely with the federal government to guarantee the availability of the incentives and infrastructure required to facilitate the smooth adoption of CNG.

NEPA and Meter Wahala Again. Dem Don Set Deadline for Nov 14.

Electricity distribution companies (DisCos) AKA Nepa don set demself up for wahala wit di Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) and di National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) as dem dey insist say customers go pay for di replacement of dia functional meters.

FCCPC and NERC don already talk say customers no suppose pay for di replacement of dia meters.

As we check yesterday, DisCos still dey insist say customers must pay to change dia meters wey still dey work.

Di DisCos don talk say di affected meters go commot permanently by Thursday, November 14, 2024, and anybody wey no comply go dey for darkness.

One source for one Lagos-based Disco talk say any customer wey no gree pay go no fit recharge, and dem go cut dem electricity supply.

Based on customers’ complaints, FCCPC don talk say di interest of di consumers must dey protected by di DisCos as e take concern law and regulation.

Di Chief Executive Officer of di Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Mr. Tunji Bello, talk say dem don receive petition from electricity customers, and di agency go make sure say di rights of di electricity customers dey protected.

Head of Consumer Engagement for National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Zubair Babatunde, don also talk say dem go protect customers, especially on top di matter of meter replacement.

“Old meters no just suppose dey replaced, dem no suppose remove am without immediate replacement. Consumer no suppose pay to replace meters,” Babatunde talk.

Di DisCos dey ask customers to pay plenty money, up to hundreds of thousands of naira, to replace di current meters wey dem wan phase out.

For example, Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) don talk say affected customers go pay N202,000 for di replacement of dia meters.

“Dem sabi all dis things, but dem no go talk am as e be. So, di earlier we get rid of di meters, di better for us because of di losses wey we dey get from dem. Na why we no fit waste time,” di source talk.

Another source for one of di DisCos talk say more than 30,000 customers don apply for di meter replacement.

Di source advise affected customers make dem grab di available meters instead of to wait for intervention meters, and dem assure say di customers go later get refund through energy token.

“Jesus Didn’t Die for Our Sins”: Oba Solomon Stirs Up Debate

“Jesus Didn’t Die for Our Sins”: Oba Solomon Stirs Up Debate

Nigerian social media preacher Adelana Adekunle Solomon, known online as Oba Solomon, has sparked an intense debate about the purpose of Jesus Christ’s death. In a video that quickly went viral, Oba Solomon questioned the traditional Christian belief that Jesus died for the sins of humanity.

According to him, the crucifixion of Jesus was not an act of redemption but a punishment for wrongdoings he committed.

In his bold statement, Solomon claimed, “Jesus didn’t die for our sins; he did wrong and was punished.” His words have naturally ignited a flood of reactions online, with people both agreeing and disagreeing with his take.

Oba Solomon isn’t new to stirring up discussions online; he previously commented on music producer Don Jazzy’s large donation of N100 million to VDM’s foundation, so his approach to challenging religious beliefs didn’t surprise his followers.

Reactions poured in from all corners of social media. Many mocked Solomon, saying his views were uneducated or overly critical of Christian teachings. Some commented with humor, like one user, alvinmilli088, jokingly said, “OBA Solomon don go smoke dry pawpaw leaf.”

Others used the opportunity to critique how African followers of Christianity seem dedicated to a foreign narrative rather than focusing on their own cultural roots. User “macmoneybrother” shared his thoughts, noting, “We Africans love someone else’s history more than ours.”

Some agreed with Solomon’s challenging perspective, raising the broader question of whether mainstream religious stories should be re-examined. Yet, others were outraged, seeing his comments as blasphemous.

User by the name oluwabsa commented that people sometimes don’t realize when they cross the line, and the debate raged on with voices both for and against Solomon’s view.

The debate Oba Solomon stirred with his bold statement shows how religious beliefs can ignite passionate conversations, especially when an outspoken personality challenges long-standing narratives.

Solomon’s comments are clearly divisive, but one thing’s for sure: he’s got people talking. Whether in humor or anger, his message has struck a chord across social media, giving people something new to debate.

Baidu Inc. set to unveil glasses with built-in AI assistant

Baidu Inc. set to unveil glasses with built-in AI assistant

Baidu Inc. is gearing up to introduce a new AI-powered gadget that might give Meta’s Ray-Bans a run for their money. The Chinese tech giant, known for its search engine dominance and AI innovations, plans to unveil smart glasses at the upcoming Baidu World event in Shanghai.

This device will feature built-in cameras to snap photos and capture video, along with a voice interaction system powered by Baidu’s Ernie foundation model, allowing users to access information hands-free.

With an expected price tag that could come in lower than Meta’s $299 Ray-Bans, Baidu’s glasses aim to break into a market that’s finally seeing widespread interest.

The success of Meta’s smart glasses, which have gained popularity through increased features and strong demand, shows there’s a real market for wearable tech that combines style with AI-powered functionality.

In fact, Meta recently admitted it was struggling to keep up with the demand for the smart Ray-Bans, which have received positive media attention for both their functionality and style. Baidu now wants to capture a similar market in China and maybe even globally.

Baidu’s new product represents a bigger push in the AI hardware space, which has seen a variety of launches this year. Some, like Humane’s AI Pin, have flopped, while others, like Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC, have been more successful.

Baidu, however, has built a strong foundation in AI, investing heavily over the last decade, and sees its new smart glasses as an opportunity to bring that tech closer to everyday users.

The glasses will be integrated with Baidu’s existing products, including Baidu Maps and the Baike encyclopedia, giving users an enhanced experience that goes beyond the basics of smart eyewear.

The launch, set for early 2025, is expected to attract plenty of attention, especially with the growing hype around smartglasses. As big tech players like Meta, Baidu, and Snap race to refine and expand their wearable tech offerings, consumers might finally see smart glasses become a staple in their tech collections.

Baidu’s entry could be just the spark needed to take smart eyewear from niche tech to mainstream status.
