Man eaten alive by pet lion just days after buying the animal to keep in his back garden
A man was attacked to death and eaten by his pet lion just days after buying the animal to keep in his backyard. A citizen of Najaf, southern Iraq, was brutally attacked by the predator prior to its consuming the majority of his body on Thursday, May 8.
“Today in a garden in the city of Kufa in Najaf, a citizen was attacked by a lion in his own garden and d!ed immediately,” Najaf Police spokesman Mufid Tahir informed local news portal Rudaw. He added the lion had to be k! illed after it had consumed most of the man’s body, and would not desist from the remains.
The victim, Aqil Fakhr al-Din, who was 50 years old, had allegedly been housing lions and other wild animals in his garden for years, Tahir said.
But on Thursday, the predator made a surprise attack on its trainer before brutally mauling him to de@th and consuming him. The neighbor of one of the victims apparently came in between and killed the lion using a Kalashnikov rifle, shooting it with seven bullets, according to local TV news.
The mans was rushed immediately to Al-Sadr Medical City Hospital in Najaf but died as a result of the severity of his wounds. Graphic images have been revealed of the man covered in blood as he lies in a hospital bed and an official investigation has also been allegedly opened into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Also currently trending on social media is video footage of the deceased lion in his garden with a number of people asking how al-Din was able to keep the wild animal on his property.
The victim purchased the lion a few days back with the aim of taming it and keeping it at home, reports said.
