Air cargo volumes in Nigeria decline due to increasing inflation.

In 2023, air cargo volumes at Nigerian airports experienced a decline attributed to factors like rising inflation, increased production costs, and reduced purchasing power. Both the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) and Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) saw decreases in total tonnage compared to the previous year. NAHCO’s total tonnage dropped by six percent, while SAHCO’s decreased from 68.23 million kg in 2022 to 63.56 million kg in 2023. Specifically, import and export services were affected, with NAHCO witnessing reductions in both categories.
