In an event organized by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in honor of Prof. Andy Egwunyenga’s successful tenure as Vice Chancellor of Delta State University (DELSU) at DELSU campus, Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta.
The National President of ASUU, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, spoke about the high turnout of first-class graduates by private universities. He said that if public universities were practicing the same method as private universities, then there would be a reduction in the quality of graduates.
He also spoke about the “mass exodus” of quality and skilled Nigerians to abroad countries that offer better system structures against the FX challenges being experienced in the country.
In his statement, “The struggle for academics to enjoy a decent standard of living saw some measure of successes in the past when academics could sustain a comfortable life.
“The situation has changed; the unions must return to the frontlines for a renewed phase of their struggle.
“ASUU will consistently speak out against injustices and support fairness.”
Dr. Paul Opone, the Chairman of DELSU ASUU, spoke about the celebrant at the event and wished him well in his future endeavors.
There have been a lot of heartfelt celebrations regarding the leadership of Prof. Andy Egwunyenga, whom many perceive to be the best leader for the university since 2019.
Paul said, “This is the first occasion where ASUU had to honor a lecturer at DELSU with such a celebration. Prof. Egwunyenga deserves far more than the praises he has received.”
