Breaking news: Zenith Bank names Adaora Umeoji as its inaugural female CEO.
Zenith Bank Plc has named Dr. Adaora Umeoji as its new Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. The appointment was announced on Tuesday in a statement signed by the company secretary, Michael Otu, and filed with the Nigerian Exchange Limited. Umeoji will assume her new role on June 1, 2024, following the departure of the current GMD, Dr. Ebenezer Onyeagwu, on May 31, 2024.
She is the first female GMDCEO in the bank’s history and her appointment aligns with the bank’s tradition of grooming leaders internally.
Umeoji is an alumnus of Harvard Business School and Columbia Business School, among others. She holds multiple degrees, including in law, accounting, and business administration, and has nearly 30 years of banking experience, with 26 years at Zenith Bank. Until her appointment, Umeoji served as the Deputy Managing Director of the bank since October 28, 2016.
