Labour suspends strike, meets with affiliate unions in Abuja.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has suspended its strike following a meeting with affiliate unions at the Labour House on Tuesday. The meeting aimed to determine the next steps after discussions with the federal government on Monday night.
Labour leaders are expected to provide feedback to their members before resuming negotiations with the government. Government officials were present at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, while labour officials were still meeting at the Labour House.
Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance, arrived and later left the meeting venue. Benson Upah, head of the NLC Information team, confirmed that labour officials would join the government team after their meeting.
This suspension follows the federal government’s assurance of a higher minimum wage commitment, discussed in a communique signed after a four-hour meeting on Monday night. Both parties agreed to continue daily negotiations for a week to settle on a new national minimum wage.
The meeting included key government and labour representatives, who also agreed that no worker would face retaliation due to the strike.
