NERC Hands Kogi Electricity Market Oversight to KSERC”
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has transferred regulatory authority over Kogi State’s intrastate electricity market to the Kogi State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KSERC).
This decision is based on the amended Electricity Act 2023 and the Nigerian Constitution, which allow states to manage their own electricity markets once specific conditions are met.
NERC will continue to regulate inter-state electricity generation, transmission, and trading, while Kogi will now oversee its local market. As part of the transition, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has been directed to create a subsidiary, AEDC SubCo, within 60 days to manage the intrastate supply and distribution of electricity in Kogi.
