US President Donald Trump insisted that he is not ruling out air strikes or boots on the ground as part of his plan to “completely wipe out the Islamic terrorists perpetrating the Christian genocide in Nigeria”.

Trump had on Friday labelled Nigeria a “country of particular concern (CPC)” over claims of Christian genocide in certain regions of the nation.

The US president threatened to halt all US aid and support to Nigeria if the government did not “better move fast.”

Additionally, Trump has vowed to launch a “fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs that attack our cherished Christians” attack against Nigeria using the Department of War.

Before boarding Air Force One on Sunday, Trump told reporters that the US can no longer afford to ignore the situation.

When asked if he envisaged boots on the ground or air strikes in his bid to save the Christian community in Nigeria, he hinted at a possibility adding that “yes, there could be”.

However, the US allegations of a Christian genocide in Nigeria have been consistently and repeatedly denied by President Bola Tinubu and other key members of his administration.

On November 1, Tinubu said: “Nigeria stands firmly as a democracy governed by constitutional guarantees of religious liberty.

“Since 2023, our administration has maintained an open and active engagement with Christian and Muslim leaders alike and continues to address security challenges which affect citizens across faiths and regions.

“The characterisation of Nigeria as religiously intolerant does not reflect our national reality, nor does it take into consideration the consistent and sincere efforts of the government to safeguard freedom of religion and beliefs for all Nigerians.

“Religious freedom and tolerance have been a core tenet of our collective identity and shall always remain so. Nigeria opposes religious persecution and does not encourage it.”

Tinubu to Meet US President

The Presidency has stated that President Bola Tinubu will meet with Donald Trump, in the coming days over the alleged claims of Christian genocide in Nigeria.

This was revealed in a post on X on Saturday by Daniel Bwala, Special Advisor to the President on Policy Communication, in response to Trump’s recent remarks accusing the Nigerian government of disregarding attacks on Christians.
