A commercial bus driver was fatally shot by a police officer in Anambra State, Nigeria’s southeast.

The incident unfolded on Saturday at Otuocha, a community in Anambra East Local Government Area of the state.

This comes just two weeks after Joseph Ozonwanji, a police inspector, fatally shot an upcoming Nigerian Ogene musician, Chikezie Okezie Mba, popularly known as Igbo-Jah, while he was visiting the Enugu State Police Command’s Anti-Cult Unit.

According to unidentified sources, the operative allegedly shot the driver, Kamtochukwu, after he refused to offer a N100 bribe to a police team at a roadblock in the region.

A source who wished to remain anonymous said, “The driver and the officer got into a heated argument, and the officer shot the driver.”

Other anonymous information obtained, said the officer is employed at the state’s Otuocha Divisional Police Headquarters.

It was equally said that youths from the neighborhood gathered to attack the police squad, but the officers swiftly drove away.

Tochukwu Ikenga, the Anambra State police spokesperson, confirmed the development of this incident when called on Sunday afternoon.

Inspector Sani Sulieman was recognized as the operative by the state’s Police Command, according to Mr. Ikenga, a superintendent of police.

The official said, “He has been disarmed and detained for further investigations and internal disciplinary procedures.”
