Three family members of former Daily Trust Editor Malam Ahmed Ajobe have been kidnapped on Thursday by unknown gunmen. His immediate younger sister, Halimtu-Sadiya Tahir, was also killed during the raid.
The Kogi Police Command confirmed the incident happened on Thursday along the bad Ankpa-Adoka-Makurdi Road while returning from a market in Awo, Ankpa Local Government Area, Kogi State.
Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, William Aya, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Friday. He said the Police Division had sent out forces to that region to rescue the victims.
He further added that the Police Commissioner, Bethrand Onuoha, has deployed a police tactical unit to the region to join forces with the current rescue team on the ground. With a stern promise to do everything within his power to bring back the victims safe and sound while simultaneously bringing the culprits to justice.
It is believed that the kidnappers are asking for a huge ransom in the region of N50 million before the victims will be released. Malam Ahmed Ajobe lost his mother, Malama Aishetu Tahir, on Sunday, and the victims went to the market to get supplies for the seven-day prayers before getting kidnapped at gunpoint.
