Police arrest two suspects for gruesome murder of young woman in Lagos
The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended two main suspects involved in the brutal murder of a young woman in the Gangare area of Mile 12.
The victim, originally from Nasarawa State, was killed and her body was set on fire on May 24, 2025.

CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the command, announced this in a statement on Sunday, May 25. He revealed that the victim’s ex-boyfriend conspired with the suspects to murder her after his attempts to rekindle their relationship failed.
Hundeyin dismissed rumors and misinformation regarding the circumstances surrounding the murder. He stated, “The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two principal suspects who participated in the heinous act where a young woman from Nasarawa State (name withheld) was tragically murdered in cold blood and her body set ablaze on May 24, 2025, in the slum of Gangare, located behind the Mile 12 Market area of Lagos State.”

Contrary to circulating rumors, it was confirmed that the victim was living in the slum with her relatives from the north, and her specific occupation is currently unknown. Preliminary investigations revealed that she was indeed from Nasarawa State and not of Yoruba descent. The ongoing conflict with her ex-boyfriend, who is currently at large, escalated after he attempted to force her back into their relationship. This led him to conspire with the two suspects, who are now in police custody, to attack, kill her, and subsequently set her body on fire.
This cold-blooded murder is clearly a premeditated crime of conspiracy and should be condemned by all. There was no indication of any blasphemy by the victim prior to her horrific death.
The Lagos State Police Command has acted swiftly by arresting the two main suspects involved in this crime, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend the ex-boyfriend and other suspects who are still at large.
The two suspects currently in custody are being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where they are assisting police detectives in their efforts to identify and arrest additional individuals involved in the murder.
The Command assures the public that normalcy has been restored in the affected slum and surrounding areas of Mile 12.
There is no tension or threat of retaliation between any ethnic groups in Ketu Mile 12 or elsewhere in Lagos State. Residents are encouraged to remain calm and continue their daily activities without fear.

While awaiting the results of the investigation, which will be made public, the community is urged to exercise caution and avoid spreading unverified information that could incite unnecessary panic.
“The Lagos State Police Command is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and will continue to provide timely updates as the investigation unfolds.”
