According to guidelines released by the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF), the Student Share Grant Initiative awards 10 matching bonus shares to eligible university and college students who buy at least 10 shares in the ongoing Dangote Petroleum Refinery initial public offering. Consequently, participating students can double their shareholdings at no additional cost.

Backstory: Bridging Financial Literacy Gaps on University Campuses

To understand the motivation behind this youth initiative, we must look at historic barriers to financial inclusion in Nigerian higher education. For decades, young adults lacked access to structured education on capital markets. As a result, millions of university students graduated without exposure to stock ownership, equities, or compound interest concepts.

To address these gaps, the Aliko Dangote Foundation introduced practical financial literacy modules alongside philanthropic outreach programs. When the refinery public offering launched on September 14, 2026, ADF Chief Executive Officer Zouera Youssoufou created a verification portal to help students experience real equity ownership firsthand.

  • September 14, 2026: The Dangote Petroleum Refinery IPO opens to institutional and retail investors at ₦525 per share.
  • October 2026: ADF unveils the dedicated student subscription portal at ipo.alikodangotefoundation.org.
  • October 13, 2026: The public offering subscription window officially closes nationwide.

How Students Qualify for the Share Grant Initiative

To participate before the offer closes, eligible students aged 18 and above in public or private tertiary schools must register on the ADF platform. After completing institutional verification, applicants purchase a minimum of 10 shares valued at ₦5,250. Once verified, the foundation funds an additional 10 shares in the student’s name, bringing their total portfolio to 20 shares valued at ₦10,500.

“Financial literacy becomes more impactful when people can apply what they learn,” stated ADF Chief Executive Zouera Youssoufou regarding the program rollout. “Exposing young people to investment opportunities early can influence their future financial habits and encourage participation in the formal economy.”

In summary, the Dangote Foundation offers free IPO shares to students as a practical lesson in wealth creation. By combining personal savings with philanthropic grants, young Nigerians can build early portfolios in one of Africa’s largest industrial ventures.
