The Nigerian Army has called for enhanced cooperation among security agencies in addressing the country’s rising security concerns, including insurgency, terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and militancy.
The Commander of the 4 Special Forces Command in Doma, Nasarawa State, Major General Olurotimi Awolo, made the appeal on Monday during the opening of the week-long Command Operations Planning Cadre 2026.
He noted that Nigeria’s security threats vary across regions, making it necessary for personnel to adopt specialised strategies, improved training, and stronger coordination across different operational theatres.
According to him, the training programme was designed to strengthen the operational capacity of personnel within the command’s area of responsibility, equipping them to respond more effectively to emerging security threats.
The cadre, themed “Tactical Leadership Capacity Building and Multi-Agency Approach to Asymmetric Operations in Joint Operations Area,” brought together participants from various military formations as well as other security agencies.
Awolo explained that involving multiple agencies was aimed at promoting a more unified approach to tackling the country’s complex security challenges.
He added that the initiative aligns with the vision of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, which focuses on building a professional, adaptable, and combat-ready force capable of effective joint operations.
The commander urged participants to give full attention to sessions on inter-agency coordination and logistics planning, noting that the skills acquired would improve operational efficiency in the field.
He also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff for approving and funding the programme, while commending facilitators and senior officers for their contributions.
Awolo further encouraged participants to apply the knowledge gained to enhance collaboration and improve security operations nationwide.

Over the years, security operations in the country have often involved multiple agencies working separately, which has sometimes led to gaps in coordination, intelligence sharing, and response time. This has made it more difficult to effectively contain criminal groups that operate across state boundaries and adapt quickly to military pressure.
Against this context, the Commander of the 4 Special Forces Command in Doma, Nasarawa State, Major General Olurotimi Awolo, emphasized the need for a more unified approach during the Command Operations Planning Cadre 2026. The training exercise was designed to improve joint planning, strengthen coordination, and enhance operational efficiency among the military and other security agencies.
The initiative also aligns with broader reforms within the armed forces aimed at improving joint operations and ensuring that different security institutions work more seamlessly together in responding to asymmetric threats across the country.
