Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor says he anticipated that Buhari’s administration would perform poorly

Former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, has criticised the administration of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing it as poorly managed.

He also expressed concern that the country has further deteriorated under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.

Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor made the remarks on Monday while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

He recalled that he had warned Nigerians in 2014 about the direction the country was heading ahead of Buhari’s presidency, saying he expected the outcome to be disappointing.

According to him, the situation has since worsened, prompting him to speak out more openly. He added that as a pastor, he feels a responsibility to speak up on behalf of Nigerians and call for accountability from those in leadership.

BACKSTORY…

Ayo Oritsejafor, a prominent cleric and former leader of both the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), has often been vocal on national political issues, especially during major election periods.

His recent comment refers back to the build-up to the 2015 elections, when Muhammadu Buhari was campaigning for the presidency. At the time, Oritsejafor says he publicly warned that the direction the country was heading could lead to poor governance, expressing doubts about how the incoming administration would perform.

Now, years after Buhari’s tenure, his remarks are being revisited in the context of ongoing national debates about governance, economic hardship, and insecurity in Nigeria. He also extended his criticism to the current administration of President Bola Tinubu, arguing that conditions have worsened and calling for greater accountability from political leaders.

His comments reflect a broader pattern where religious and civic leaders in Nigeria often weigh in on governance issues, especially when public frustration over economic and security challenges rises.
