Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Delta North Senatorial District is expected to witness a keen political contest.

Reports indicate that a former Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, recently declared his interest in contesting for the senatorial seat.
The district is currently represented by Senator Ned Nwoko, who has been actively championing the creation of Anioma State.
Speaking to journalists on Friday at the Asaba International Airport, Nwoko reaffirmed his intention to continue representing the people of the Delta North zone.
Both politicians are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC). However, while Nwoko has long been a prominent figure within the party in the state, Okowa only joined the APC last year alongside the Delta State Governor.

Nwoko, who had already established himself as a key APC leader prior to the defections, was accompanied by former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, as they pledged support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu, expressing confidence in his leadership and ongoing reforms.
They were received at the airport by a large crowd of supporters, which Nwoko described as a reflection of his strong connection with the people of Delta North.
He urged constituents to continue supporting what he described as progressive governance and cautioned against a return to “old politics.”
On the issue of Anioma State creation, Nwoko aligned with the position of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, stating that Akpabio’s stance reflects the official direction on the matter.
He also revealed plans to upgrade the Federal College of Education, Asaba, into a federal university, describing it as a strategic move to expand access to higher education and promote regional development.
