A multi-storey building has collapsed in the Alakija area of Amuwo-Odofin LGA, Lagos state, leaving many trapped under the rubble.
The building collapsed on Thursday morning, trapping an unspecified number of residents beneath the rubble.
In a statement shared on X, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said security personnel and emergency responders had arrived at the scene and commenced rescue operations.
Additionally, LASTMA said rescue teams had deployed an excavator to support efforts to reach and evacuate individuals trapped inside the collapsed building.
The agency also disclosed that the incident has caused traffic congestion around the area.
It said, “Emergency response agencies, men of the Nigerian police, Nigerian Navy personnel, officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, and PHCN personnel, are on ground coordinating rescue operations and managing the situation”
“An excavator has been deployed to assist in the rescue of persons trapped within the collapsed structure.”
Multiple reports however appear to have conflicting details about the exact number of stories. While some reports indicate two stories, others indicate three stories.

Similar Incident In Rivers State
Exactly twenty four hours ago, a two-storey building under construction collapsed in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, trapping an unspecified number of workers beneath the rubble.
The incident occurred on Dr. Peter Odili Road near Eterna Filling Station in Port Harcourt, less than 24 hours after another building collapsed in the Iwofe area of the state capital, although that earlier incident did not result in any injuries.
According to an eyewitness who spoke with LEADERSHIP, the building gave way shortly after construction workers resumed work for the day.
Findings have however revealed that rescue teams have pulled two people from the rubble and rushed them to a hospital for treatment, although authorities have not disclosed the facility’s identity.

Backstory…
Findings gathered also revealed that the building collpase in Port Harcourt comes barely twenty four hours after a different building partially collapsed along Slaughter Road, off Iwofe Road (Aker Junction), in the capital city.
A loud, thunderous crash from the site startled residents and drew many of them out of their homes in confusion at about 11 a.m.
According to a resident who spoke with newsmen on condition of anonymity, the collapse sent vibrations across the neighbourhood and rattled the entire area.
