2027: Segun Sowunmi says presidential race likely to be between Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar

Political analyst and former ally of the African Democratic Congress, Segun Sowunmi, has predicted that President Bola Tinubu may record a weaker performance in the 2027 presidential election.

Sowunmi said the contest is likely to be mainly between Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show, he projected that Tinubu could secure about 22 states but may still face challenges in some northern regions.

According to him, Tinubu is expected to perform better in the Southeast, Southwest, South-South, and North-Central compared to previous elections, while also improving his numbers in the Northwest.

However, Sowunmi noted that the president’s biggest challenge could come from parts of the North, where key political players and influential figures may shape the outcome.

He pointed to shifting alliances and the influence of major political stakeholders in states like Katsina and Kano as factors that could affect the election dynamics.
