Nigerian Army intercepts suspected terrorist supplier, recovers 150 combat boots in Zamfara State

Troops of Sector II of the Nigerian Army under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have arrested a suspected supplier of logistics to terrorist groups and recovered 150 pairs of combat boots alongside other tactical items in Zamfara State.

According to an operational report released on Thursday, the suspect was intercepted along the Sokoto-Gusau Road during a routine stop-and-search exercise carried out by the troops on Wednesday.

The military said the suspect was travelling in a Honda Civic when soldiers discovered several military-related items hidden inside the vehicle.

Items recovered included 150 pairs of combat boots, three jackknives, three electric shock devices, a tear gas canister, a military beret, and a belt.

According to the report, the suspect remains in military custody for further investigation, while the recovered items have been kept as evidence.

The army said the arrest highlights the success of intensified stop-and-search operations under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, aimed at restricting terrorists’ movement and cutting off their access to operational supplies.

It also reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to maintaining pressure on terrorist groups and their collaborators in order to improve security and restore peace across Zamfara State and the wider North-West region.

BACKSTORY:

The arrest comes amid ongoing military operations across Zamfara State and other parts of the North-West, where security forces have intensified efforts to cut off supply chains sustaining terrorist and bandit groups.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA was launched as part of broader efforts by the Nigerian Army to tackle rising attacks, kidnappings, and banditry in the region.

Security agencies have repeatedly stressed that disrupting logistics networks—such as the movement of weapons, equipment, and tactical supplies—is key to weakening criminal groups and limiting their ability to carry out attacks.

The latest interception is seen as part of the military’s strategy to tighten surveillance on major routes and prevent essential supplies from reaching armed groups operating in the region.
