Nigerian Army launches Exercise Thunder Strike military drill in Bauchi State

The Nigerian Army Armour School in Bauchi has announced a military training exercise, tagged Exercise Thunder Strike 2026, aimed at enhancing the combat readiness of its personnel.

In a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Major Adekunle Adeyemi, the Army disclosed that a firepower demonstration for cadets of the Nigerian Defence Academy will take place on June 25, 2026, at the Victor Kure Armour Range along the Bauchi–Jos Road.

According to the statement, the main field training exercise is scheduled to run from June 29 to July 2, 2026, across Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State and other designated locations.

Residents have been advised to expect increased movement of troops, armoured vehicles, military hardware, and low-flying aircraft during the exercise.

The Nigerian Army noted that activities on June 25 will be concentrated around Zaranda Hill and Geji Village in Bauchi Local Government Area, while the wider exercise will extend to Bara in Gombe State, Bashar and Dengi in Plateau State, Karim and Muri in Taraba State, as well as Alkaleri and nearby communities in Bauchi State.

It urged residents, especially farmers and herders, not to panic over the sound of gunfire, stressing that adequate safety measures have been put in place.

The public was also advised to avoid all designated training locations throughout the exercise period.

The operation will conclude on July 2 with a live firepower display involving Armoured Fighting Vehicles, while the Army appealed to media outlets to help sensitise the public and encourage cooperation.
