The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has deployed CP Abayomi Shogunle to Ekiti State as the Commissioner of Police in charge of security for the upcoming governorship election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.
According to the statement, the deployment is part of the IGP’s operational strategy aimed at ensuring adequate security and a peaceful, violence-free election in the state.
Upon assuming duty, CP Shogunle reportedly intensified the implementation of security measures, including strengthened collaboration with sister security agencies and election stakeholders.
These measures include intelligence-driven operations to prevent political violence, anti-thuggery and anti-cult activities, counter-misinformation efforts, and coordinated planning for the safe movement of electoral materials and personnel of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Command also said a centralised operational structure has been established to ensure rapid response, with joint deployment of personnel under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) to secure polling units, collation centres, and other critical locations across the state.
It added that officers have been strategically posted to identified flashpoints to prevent any breakdown of law and order, while personnel deployed for the election have been briefed on professional conduct in line with constitutional and electoral guidelines.
CP Shogunle also called on political actors, community leaders, and residents of Ekiti State to cooperate with security agencies to ensure a peaceful electoral process.
The police command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring a free, fair, and credible election.
It further highlighted Shogunle’s experience in election security management, noting his previous role during the peaceful Anambra governorship election.
Members of the public were urged to remain law-abiding and report suspicious activities to security authorities or the command’s emergency line.
