Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, famously known as Davido, has sparked heated debates following his recent remarks about Nigeria’s economy on the American podcast which he is now claiming to have received threats on cancellation of his upcoming Lagos concert in December.
During the podcast, Davido didn’t hold back in sharing his views on Nigeria’s economic struggles. He warned African Americans considering a move to Nigeria to think twice, describing the country’s economy as being in “shambles.”
This blunt statement triggered a wave of criticism from notable Nigerians like Joe Igbokwe, Reno Omokri, and Patrick Doyle, who publicly expressed their displeasure.
While some were quick to condemn him, Davido found allies in personalities such as Verydarkman, Anita Joseph, and Paulo Okoye, who supported his stance.
They argued that his comments were based on harsh realities many Nigerians face daily.
Unfazed by the backlash, Davido took to social media to clap back at his critics. In a bold tweet, he said, “Y’all mad ’cause we the real ambassadors!”
According to the Timeless crooner, entertainers like him are the ones truly representing Nigeria on the global stage.
In a more shocking twist, Davido revealed that some individuals are threatening to cancel his much-anticipated Lagos show in December because of his comments.
Taking a lighthearted jab at the threats, he posted, “Dem say dem go cancel my show cus of my interview… loooool I don’t have to perform in Nigeria.”
This isn’t the first time Davido has faced heat for speaking his mind, and it likely won’t be the last.
His candidness has earned him both admirers and critics. While some accuse him of being too blunt, others praise him for using his platform to highlight Nigeria’s struggles.
Despite the controversy, one thing is clear—Davido isn’t backing down. Whether he performs in Lagos or not, his voice continues to spark conversations about the state of the nation.
