No S3x, No Marriage: Pastor Calls It Quits After 30yrs
On Friday, the Mapo Grade A Customary Court in Ibadan dissolved the 30-year union of Pastor Olamide Agbejaife with estranged wife Mary on grounds of frequent non-cohabitation with him and suspected food poisoning.

Pastor Agbejaife of Olodo in Ibadan told the court that things changed drastically from the time of receipt of revelation in 2017 that he would marry another wife.
He claimed that since that time, Mary had stopped any form of sexual relations with him and even tried to poison him.
“I had serious stomach pains on December 6, 2021, after eating food given to me by Mary,” Agbejaife stated.
“Without any cause, she has cursed me several times.
“After our first child was born in 1995, she started leaving the house without my knowledge and without explanation.

“In fact, I underwent surgery in 2022, and for 14 months, Mary neglected me and returned later.”
He also recounted how Mary had told someone he had died after a poisoning incident.
Mary, a trader responding to the court proceedings, pleaded with the court to spare their relationship, which had existed for 30 years, claiming she wanted to enjoy the fruits of her labour and those children they bore.
Mary further stated that Agbejaife was the one who denied her sexual intimacy and actually left the matrimonial premises.
She further stated, “We never satisfy our quarrels with physical fighting, but some arguments had been involved.’
While pronouncing judgment, the court president, Mrs O.E. Owoseni, ruled that Agbejaife and Mary could go their separate ways since clearly Mary was no longer interested in the marriage. Owoseni went on to stipulate that the union was neither valid below the customary standard since the bride price was not paid to the respondent by the applicant, Agbejaife.

Quoting sections from different laws relevant to the case, the court noted that none of the evidence produced by either party showed that a dowry had been paid.
“Valid customary marriage in Nigeria springs from the payment of a dowry,” she noted.
The court struck the prayer for an injunction restraining Mary from harassing, threatening, or interfering with Pastor Agbejaife’s private life as being unsupported by evidence.
