Nigerian singer and rapper Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington or Akpi, has spent over a week in police custody, sparking outrage from his lawyer and fans.

His legal representative, Stan Alieke, has publicly accused the Nigerian police of violating Speed’s constitutional rights by refusing him bail since his re-arrest few day ago.

Speed Darlington was arrested in Owerri, Imo State, on November 27 while performing at an event. Reports suggest that uniformed officers stormed the venue and took the singer into custody.

While the exact reasons for his arrest remain unclear, rumors hint at a possible connection to Afrobeats star Burna Boygggy.

On December 3, Alieke took to social media to express his frustration over the situation, stating that his client had been detained for seven days without bail.

He criticized the authorities for allegedly disregarding the rule of law, calling for Speed Darlington’s immediate release.

The news has drawn mixed reactions from fans and social media users. While some blamed Speed for his predicament, others pledged unwavering support and love:

@ritaberry_desserts commented, “He brought this on himself. His fans enabled him, so they should go bail him out.”

@darhray_concept said, “Even if Burna Boy killed someone, I’d still love him. Next time, don’t mess with the Outsiders.”

@king_fhavour declared, “We Akpians stand united. Our president is coming out soon. No shaking! Dererenngggg!”

@malayofedo joked, “They should arrest anyone who comments on this matter. Start with that lawyer they said didn’t finish law school.”

Speed Darlington’s often controversial persona has divided opinions once again, but his loyal fanbase continues to rally behind him. For now, many await clarity on the reasons behind his arrest and whether justice will prevail at last.
