Social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM), has defended Davido amid criticism of the singer’s recent remarks about Nigeria.

During an interview, Davido advised Americans against relocating to Nigeria, citing the nation’s struggling economy. His comments drew backlash from notable figures, including Patrick Doyle and Nyma Dabiri, who accused him of being overly negative.

VDM, known for his bold opinions, did not hold back in his response. In a video shared online, he blasted Davido’s critics, accusing them of speaking recklessly without considering the facts.

He argued that the singer’s statements reflected Nigeria’s reality, stating, “Davido didn’t lie. If it were me, I’d have been even more blunt.”

The activist went further, highlighting the insecurity and economic challenges plaguing Nigeria. He remarked that if he had been the one interviewed, he would have humorously warned Americans about potential kidnappings if they relocated.

VDM described the dire state of Nigeria’s economy, citing the exodus of several major companies in recent years.

According to him, five global firms, including Cussons and Microsoft, left Nigeria in 2024 alone due to harsh business conditions.

He also pointed out that ten companies exited in 2023, 15 shut down in 2022, and over 20 left in 2021. These departures, he noted, are clear signs of a deteriorating economic climate.

VDM also painted a bleak picture of everyday life for Nigerians. He revealed that many citizens survive on less than $5 a week and can barely afford basic food items.

To drive his point home, he shared the soaring prices of essential goods, underscoring how families are struggling to make ends meet.

In his video, VDM criticized Patrick Doyle and others for overlooking these challenges while targeting Davido.

He expressed frustration with their stance and warned them to stop dragging the singer unnecessarily. “Davido spoke the truth, and it’s about time people face it instead of attacking him,” he asserted.

Fans of the “Timeless” hitmaker have rallied behind him, commending VDM for his strong defense. Many agree that Davido’s remarks shine a spotlight on pressing national issues.

In the ongoing debate, both Davido and VDM seem resolute in sparking conversations about the harsh realities Nigerians face daily.
